Saturation Meter (Pulse Oximeter)
A pulse oximeter (saturation meter) uses a sensor to measure the oxygen content of the blood.
The sensor is placed on the hand or foot. It has diodes that emit light at two different wavelengths. On the opposite side is a receiver that captures the light that has passed through the tissue. Subsequently, the oxygen saturation is calculated. It is the pulsating oxygen-enriched arterial blood upon which the calculation is made. If the baby is moving around a lot, the calculation can be temporarily disrupted.
