Nasal cannula

Nasal cannula are used to give the baby a mixture of air and oxygen. When using a slightly higher flow, the mixture is heated and moistened. The nasal cannula are attached to the baby's cheeks and two soft prongs are inserted into the nostrils where the mixture is given. How much oxygen/air is given depends on how well the baby is able to oxygenate its body.

Low-flow nasal cannula provide pure oxygen in very small flows that mix in the nose with the air from the room which the baby inhales.
