Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a method that produces sectional images of the various organs of the body using magnetic fields and radio waves, without exposing the body to radiation.
An MRI camera consists of a tunnel into which a movable scanning table is inserted during the examination and a series of images are taken. During the examination, a loud knocking sound can be heard. Therefore, the baby wears hearing protection during the examination, which is approximately 30 to 60 minutes long. Since it is important that the baby lies completely still during the examination, the baby will usually receive a sedative. A member of staff from the ward always accompanies and stays with the baby during the examination.
