CPAP

CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) is a treatment in which a positive airway pressure is applied continuously throughout the breathing cycle. By inflating the airways or increasing volume, sections of the lungs that are closed, open up and the continuous pressure prevents the alveoli from collapsing.

The baby may have to wear a cap to keep the CPAP unit in place. Two soft prongs made of silicone sit in the baby's nostrils, or a soft silicone mask may be used.
