Autoclaving and glass washing facility

The autoclaving and glass washing facility is located in J10:30

Laboratory glassware for washing

Used laboratory glassware should be placed in a blue plastic box stored in the lab. When the box is full, place it in one of the cabinets by the transport elevators. The service staff will only pick up glassware from the cabinets, and the blue boxes should only be used for the washing service. Please follow the instructions for a clean experience.

Remove any written text and tape, and rinse the glass thoroughly before leaving it to the facility!

Bio-contaminated glassware

  1. Collect a yellow box with stripes from the dishwashing facility on J10:30. The lid has been adjusted.
  2. Decontaminate the biological material according to your risk assessment (for example, use Virkon to kill bacteria).
  3. Rinse the glassware and place it in the yellow box with stripes. Put the lid on and place the box in room U230 10 4700 on J10:30.
  4. Mark the lid with a post-it or autoclave tape with this information: name, research group and internal address to your lab (e.g. J5:20).

Clean glassware for autoclaving

  1. Write your name and internal address to your lab (e.g. J5:20).
  2. Leave the glassware in the cabinet marked "Osterilt" on J10:30 before 11 AM.

Deliveries

Mail and packages

Post is delivered by Coor to post boxes at floor 2 in BioClinicum. The caretakers at BioClinicum will then deliver the mail and packages to each floor.

The mail is placed in mailboxes sorted by the names of the group leaders. Packages are delivered to a designated area by the lunch rooms, near the transport elevators.

Bulky goods

Bulky goods will be delivered to each floor by Coor.

Refridgerated and frozen goods

Deliveries that need to be stored in refridgerators or freezers are delivered to each floor, and are there handed either directly to the recipient, or placed in a fridge/freezer  by the lunch rooms, near the transport elevators.

Gas cylinders

Gas cylinders/flasks are delivered to BioClinicum's reception for goods at level 3, Framstegsgatan 11. The recipient collects the gas cylinders there. If you need to borrow a trolley for transportation, contact the BioClinicum caretakers, 072-254 23 44.

Special deliveries

The term special deliveries is used for goods sent by courier, e.g. DHL/FedEx. A courier from the company in question will deliver the package directly to the recipient. The courier should be recommended to use the staff elevators in the south section of the building.

Consumables via a just-in-time system, "JIT"

All JIT materials are supplied by Medicarrier. The course "Supply of consumables (JIT)" at Lärtorget describes how the consumables supply system works at the Karolinska University Hospital.

Cleaning services

Cleaning in all the facilities will be carried out by Coor. Generally, laboratories, lunch rooms, and WCs will be cleaned every day. Office space will be cleaned twice a week. If you are dissatisfied with cleaning service you should contact Coor's helpdesk.

Special orders for cleaning can be placed in consultation with BioClinicum's House Council, BioClinicum management and Facility Management (FM) at the Karolinska University Hospital who will pass the order on to Coor.

Coor will only empty recycling containers and waste bins provided by Skanska or Coor. If you have your own waste bins, you will have to empty them yourself into designated bags for the AVAC system in the recycling room.

Ongoing cleaning services

Every facility is defined by a quality level and a quality frequency in accordance with Swedish Standards. Ongoing cleaning services are scheduled for times between 06:00 and 18:00 (mainly 07:00–16:00) on Monday–Sunday. Supplies of soap, paper hand towels and toilet paper are included in the cleaning service. Hand sanitizers are not included in the cleaning services - each operation need to provide this themselves.

Intermittent cleaning services

Examples of intermittent services includes:

  • Floor cleaning
  • Window cleaning
  • Art
  • Difficult to access areas

The work is carried out in accordance with a maintenance plan and is scheduled in consultation with the departments before the work starts. If you have questions regarding cleaning contact Coor helpdesk

Changing rooms

There are two changing rooms with showers, one for women and one for men. The changing rooms are located on floor 2 in BioClinicum. The lockers at floors 2 are general, which means they cannot be booked and can only be used while showering or changing. There are also lockers on each floor which can be used for clothes storage.

Locker allocation for the different departments in the building is based on the number of full-time employees per floor/department who need to change clothing completely for their daily work:

Floors 1–2 19 (Women) + 20 (Men)
Floor 3 5 (Women) + 3 (Men)
Floor 4-KERIC 9 (Women) + 4 (Men)
Floor 4-Human 9 (Women) + 10 (Men)
PET-center Floor 4 3 (Women) +  1 (Men)
Floors 5–10 6 (Women) + 8 (Men)

Linen management

Staff work clothes

Staff work clothes can be obtained from work clothes vending machines, known as "textile cupboards" on floor 2. The work clothes should be returned to the same place or placed in the laundry baskets in the recycling rooms located at every floor. The laundry baskets will be emptied when needed by Coor. All work clothes at the Karolinska University Hospital are chipped and are consequently traceable. If work clothes disappear from circulation, the person who withdrew the work clothes will be responsible for replacement costs.

N.B. When clothing that has been withdrawn has not been laundered within 90 days of withdrawal, it will be regarded as disappeared from circulation.

The course "Linen management, staff work clothes" at Lärtorget (Course-ID 11939) describes the staff work clothes flow at the Karolinska University Hospital.

Other linen (towels, sheets)

On floor 10 in BioClinicum, there is a laundry cart containing linen from where departments on floors 5–10 can collect kitchen towels, bathroom towels and sheets etc. The cart is refilled by Coor when needed.

Pneumatic tube transport system

A pneumatic tube transport system for transporting samples within the hospital is available on all floors in BioClinicum. The system is managed by Coor and any problems or faults in the system should be reported to Coor. Instructions for using the pneumatic tube transport system is posted near the pneumatic post station.

To access the pneumatic tube transport system, you need to order access via Navet. Order of tubes is made via Coor.

AGV service

AGVs (Automatic Guided Vehicles) transports, in principle, all goods within the new hospital building. AGVs run along tracks on pre-programmed routes. A laser beam in the ceiling informs the AGV function that there are carts waiting for transportation. The cart will stop if anything, or anyone, is in the way. It is therefore important that elevator halls and access routes are not blocked.

The right-hand elevator on the northern side of BioClinicum is reserved for AGV traffic. There are two delivery sites for AGV goods per floor, outside the elevator hall in the corridor leading to the lunch room.

Supplementary services

The services provided at the Karolinska University Hospital are regulated by a P3 partnership (Public- Private Partnership) that includes a basic range of services. There are also a number of supplementary services that have been negotiated at a central level. If you need a supplementary service from Coor, please contact bioclinicum.karolinska@regionstockholm.se, the matter will progress for negotiation in consultation with FM services and Coor.
