E-courses
Before you start working in BioClinicum, there are some e-courses that you need to take. Some are mandatory, and some are optional for your work.
Access to courses via Lärtorget
You will find a majority of the e-courses at Lärtorget - the e-learning portal for Region Stockholm (RS). You need your eServicecard (eTjänstekort) and an RS computer to log on to Lärtorget. Go to http://lartorget.sll.se/ to log in. If you do not have an RS computer, there are at least one on each floor in BioClinicum that you can use (in the media rooms, cryo room and freezer room).
Mandatory e-courses
There are four mandatory courses that you need to complete before working in BioClinicum:
- Karolinska Safety and Security Training
- Fire and safety at NKS and BioClinicum
- Basic practical fire and safety training
- Karolinska Institutet laboratory safety course
1. Karolinska Safety and Security Training
You must have completed the Karolinska University Hospital safety and security course before you start working at BioClinicum. This e-course ends with a short test that you must pass to be eligible to have your photo taken for your eServicecard and to pick up the card. The course is available in both Swedish and English.
Swedish: If you have access to Lärtorget, search for the course Grundläggande säkerhetsutbildning (Course ID 14301). If you do not have access to Lärtorget, you can complete the course via an external website: www.karolinska.se/sakerhetsutbildning

2. Fire and safety at NKS and BioClinicum
You must complete this safety e-course before you start work at BioClinicum. The course will teach you how to contact security personnel, the building’s various access points and permissions to use them, the structure of the building’s fire safety installations, and the routines in conjunction with fire alarms.
The course is called Fire and safety at NKS and BioClinicum (Course ID 5177). You can search by the course name (in English) on Lärtorget.
3. Basic practical fire and safety training
The basic practical fire and safety training must be carried out within three months after a new research group has moved in to BioClinicum. The course involves guided tours of the facilities and reviews of emergency assembly points, fire extinguishers, etc. Representatives from all research themes have undergone site-specific fire safety training in BioClinicum with a Falck instructor. The principle is that the representatives in turn spread knowledge to their team. If additional training with instructor is needed, this is coordinated and funded by the research themes.
The Karolinska University Hospital guidelines for fire and safety in the workplace
Recruiting managers are responsible for ensuring that all new employees (including those employed by the hour) are introduced to routines for fire and safety at the workplace. All new employees must have completed a practical fire and safety training course provided by the safety department within three months after employment to ensure safety and to give the employees the level of knowledge required involving fire and safety matters.
4. Karolinska Institutet laboratory safety course
In this e-course you will learn how to handle for example chemicals, biological and infectious material according to the Swedish legislation. The course is necessary to ensure that all persons working in the labs have the required knowlegde to work in a safe manner.

E-courses listed for BioClinicum
There are other courses that are not mandatory but important for you to go through, like for example waste management. These courses are available in both English and Swedish and can be taken as many times as you like.
The following list shows E-courses of relevance for BioClinicum employees that have been translated into English. The easiest way to find a specific course is to log on to Lärtorget and search by the course name.
- The new hospital building in Solna – your workplace.
- Waste management at New Karolinska Solna (NKS).
- Reporting service and equipment faults.
- Supply of consumables (JIT).
- Mail and package handling at New Karolinska Solna (NKS).
- Pneumatic tube transport.
- Linen management – staff work clothes. Course.
- E-learning FreezerPro (freezer storage system)

- OpenLogger Systems – a monitoring system (for alarm receiver).
