Core facilities
A core facility can be an equipment, a function or a service that can be accessed by everyone in the building, by an entire unit, or by the whole Karolinska Institutet/Karolinska University Hospital.
Core facilities in BioClinicum
There are two facilities in BioClinicum that serve the whole building.
- Histo core: Located on floor J8:20 room 4300. Theme Cardiovascular, division of are responsible.
- Bacteria lab: Located om floor J6:30 room 4200. Theme Cancer are responsible.
- Facility for Advanced Cell and Tissue Culture (FACT): Plan J10:20
There are also two facilties that may be used after agreement with the responsible:
- Radioactivity room: Located on floor J5:20 room 3700. Contact Thuy Tran, Radiopharmacy.
- Isotope room: Located on floor J6:30 room 3400. Contact Andreas Lundqvist, Theme Cancer.
- Autoradiography Core Facility (ARG)
If you wish to use a core facility, always contact the person or group responsible for the facility to obtain information on how to use it and the rules governing its use. In some cases, permits or training are required before starting, and information is required in all cases. The use of a core facility is usually associated with a fee designed to cover operating costs.
How to start a core facility
If you wish to launch your own core facility, you should complete a form, following the steps shown below, and send your application to magnus.nordenskjold@ki.se. Your application should include a description of your proposed facility, an estimate of the number of people who will use the core facility, and a tentative budget.
The application for starting a core facility must include the following information:
- Name and location (room number) of the core facility.
- Persons with overall responsibility and operational responsibility for the core facility: name, email address, location, phone number, and organizational affiliation.
- Description of the core facility.
- Budget for the operation and acquisition of the core facility (income and expenses).
- A list of users outside the applicant’s own group.
- Accessibility: booking systems, cost, mandatory courses or permits.
- Competing businesses
