ECG Monitoring at the Neonatal ward

The baby has three electrodes attached to its chest which record the ECG, the electrical activity that occurs when the heart muscle is activated. All the cells in the heart have the ability to be electrically activated, thus generating a continuous contraction of the heart muscle. Under normal conditions, the electrical activation of the heart is controlled in a system with special heart muscle cells, in the so-called electrical conduction system. This electrical system ensures that the various parts of the heart are activated in the correct order.
