Karolinska’s journey of change

Healthcare is changing at an ever faster pace. At Karolinska University Hospital, we will be drivers in this exciting development.

Karolinska University Hospital is home to extensive knowledge, expertise and commitment. In 2016, we are introducing a new thematic organization to meet the challenges we are facing in the best way. We are also building up the activities based on our patients and working in interprofessional and interdisciplinary teams around every patient group.

We will increasingly work based on and together with the patient to provide him or her the very best care. It is of central importance to organize the care according to the patient's route through the healthcare system and work based on and measure the values that are important to the patient - what is called value-based care.

Value-based care

The hospital shall work with value-based care with patient involvement. With value-based care, the care is controlled to a greater extent by the outcomes and results that create the most value to the patient. In the new thematic organization, we will measure and follow up the outcome measurements that are relevant to the patient and patients contribute to preparing these measurements. The model for value-based care is developed so that it fits Karolinska.

Strengthening our mission

Karolinska University Hospital shall also strengthen its mission as a university hospital. An important factor is the collaboration with Karolinska Institutet. We have to integrate care, research and education in everything we do. Moreover, innovations shall be implemented in treatment in the best way. Our newly built university hospital that will soon be finished in Solna will become the hub of a Life Science cluster for academia, research and business.
