The Department of Thoracic Surgery treats diseases of the heart, lungs and the heart’s major blood vessels.
The main disease groups are coronary artery disease (coronary bypass surgery), valve insufficiencies (valve prosthesis or valve repair), heart failure (including heart transplants), arrhythmias, aortic aneurysms and respiratory diseases (especially operations for lung cancer).
Research and development work is under way in a number of areas, including coronary bypass, heart failure and arrhythmia surgery, in addition to stem cell research and pulmonary studies.
The Department of Thoracic Surgery are centralized in Solna.
