The department is responsible for renal medical care and dialysis treatment of patients from the majority of the greater Stockholm area in total, close to 1.5 million inhabitants.
Renal medicine at Karolinska is also responsible for dialysis treatment of children from large areas of eastern and northern Sweden.
The renal clinic at Karolinska has operations in both Huddinge and Solna and at a number of dialysis facilities within the county. The collective personnel strength is around 310 including approximately 180 nurses, 90 nurse assistants and 40 physicians.
The activities also include medical secretaries, healthcare teachers, counselors, dieticians, physical therapists and other personnel categories with various types of special competences.
