The aim of the Department of Physical Therapy is to provide highly specialized physiotherapy treatment, research and development at Karolinska University Hospital.
In addition, we are responsible for the clinical education of physiotherapy students from the Karolinska Institute.
Competence
The Department of Physical Therapy at Karolinska University Hospital offers physiotherapy based on a solid scientific foundation and years of clinical experience.
The department is subdivided into units that include Surgery, Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Orthopedics, Thorax, Rheumatology, Psychiatrics, Geriatrics and Pediatrics. We closely cooperate with the various hospital departments and outpatient clinics.
Our department provides physiotherapy at both Karolinska Solna and Karolinska Huddinge. Around 200 physiotherapists work at our clinic.
We take an active and ethical approach to our work and conduct as described by the standards of the Community and Health Care Organization. Our work is characterized by quality, continuity and availability.
Clinical activities
Our aim is to be preventive and to provide treatment, rehabilitation and follow-up for patients with various functional disabilities such as joint and back problems, pain symptoms, respiratory disease, burns, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, myocardial infarction, stroke and post-operative rehabilitation. We balance our treatment to meet the physical and psychological abilities of the patient.
Research
Active research and development is conducted within numerous areas of the Department of Physical Therapy. Research is often carried out on multidisciplinary projects involving national and international collaboration.
