At the center, diseases in the blood, bone marrow, and lymphoid system are diagnosed and treated. These include malignant hematological disorders, benign hematological disorders, and coagulation disorders including hemophilia.
The center has two main units, located at Solna and Huddinge, and a satellite unit at Danderyd's hospital. We collaborate with several different departments and institutions within the Karolinska University Hospital and Karolinska Institute.
The center is very active with research and educational activities
Research groups are active within a wide range of research areas covering the different hematological diseases (for example MDS, leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, coagulation disorders), but also within the fields of gene therapy, inflammation, granulocyte functions, infection immunology, apoptosis and the actions of cytotoxic drugs.
The educational activities include, in addition to basic education in hematology for medical and nursing students also research courses in hematology and continuing education courses for nurses and physicians in hematology.
