Geriatrics is the science of identifying, diagnosing and treating elderly patients with often multiple illnesses. We treat patients with strokes, acute hip fractures and elderly patients with multiple diseases.
The department is located in Huddinge and can handle 116 institutional patients with spaces distributed over six units. The outpatient operation is concentrated towards highly specialized memory studies, traffic medicine assessments and molecular genetic consultation.
The neuro-geriatric memory center has the responsibility for all patients within this field in the county and carries out memory examinations for patients of all ages.
There are approximately 300 employees at the clinic. Every year we receive 3,200 inpatient and 8,000 outpatient visits.
The clinic is on the cutting edge internationally in regard to Alzheimer’s disease and nationally regarding dementia and dementia related illnesses, geriatric endocrinology, nutrition, strokes, Parkinson’s disease, traffic medicine, as well as health economics and social geriatric studies.
