Department of Speech and Language Therapy

We examine, diagnose and treat patients with voice, speech and language impairments, as well as those with eating and swallowing difficulties.

The department’s 40 employees includes logopeds, as well as administrative and technical staff. Each year we handle approximately 9,000 outpatient visits.

Our operations are closely tied to the Logopedics and Phoniatrics unit at the Karolinska Institute. Several of our employees provide theoretical and practical training for logopedic students and physicians during their specialized training, in addition to serving as research mentors.

The department also conducts research in normal and impaired voice, speech and language function. For example, we are examining how workplace noise affects voice and speech failure in dementia patients.
