Our Clinical laboratory provides around-the-clock services at Karolinska University Hospitals in Huddinge and Solna, Södersjukhuset (South General Hospital), Danderyd Hospital, Södertälje Hospital and Norrtälje Hospital. We supply laboratory services for these hospitals and perform a large part of the Stockholm County Council primary health care, including emergency and elective analyses. Many of our most common analyses involve determination of different biochemical substances in blood, urine and other body fluids. We also run haematological and coagulation analyses and receive samples for advanced special analysis from all over Sweden. Our work is carried out at both protein and DNA level and this also applies to complicated investigations of endocrinological and metabolic diseases. The majority of our methods are accredited by the Swedish Board for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment (SWEDAC).
Our analyses are carried out using state of the art techniques with advanced IT-support. A large number of our orders and results are dispatched electronically.
At the South General Hospital, Södertälje hospital and Norrtälje hospital our personnel are also responsible for sample collection, and a basic transfusion medicine service is available at Södertälje and Norrtälje hospitals.
Our Clinical laboratory has a very active role in development of efficient and quality-controlled work with Point-of-Care Testing in all our hospitals.
We currently have about 350 staff who conduct approximately 12 million analyses annually.
Research, Development and Education
As part of a University Hospital Laboratory, we also have a mission to develop education, and research and development (R&D) in cooperation with Karolinska Institutet. The most important research fields are coagulation disorders and metabolic disorders, especially in lipid and steroid research.
