Applicants to postgraduate studies must meet admission requirements and must also have an aptitude for the program. While Karolinska Institutet awards the degree, clinical research cannot exist without a hospital. Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital are therefore mutually dependent with respect to clinical research.
Requirements
Applicants must meet general admission requirements as well as prerequisite requirements specified in the curriculum for the selected subject.
To meet the general admission requirements applicants must have a Swedish or foreign undergraduate degree comprising a minimum of 120 credits or equivalent.
Prerequisite requirements are defined in the curriculum for each subject. All subjects require English skills equivalent to three years of study at the upper secondary level.
In addition, applicants must often meet specific educational requirements. The department reviews each application in conjunction with the admission procedure.
Applicants interested in postgraduate education should:
- Choose a subject for postgraduate studies and contact the advisor at the department for that subject.
- Apply for a certificate of general eligibility on a separate form.
- Be able to document prerequisite requirements specified in the curriculum for the selected subject.
- Draw up an individual curriculum together with the advisor.
Postgraduate studies are open to both Swedish and foreign students.
Admission
Applicants are admitted to the postgraduate education program at the department that offers the subject that the doctoral candidate selected. In most cases the program is offered completely, or primarily, at that same department.
