The Clinical Research Center houses a “research hotel” and core facilities for experimental clinical research.
Research conducted at the Clinical Research Center spans a broad spectrum from clinical stem cell research and cell and gene therapy to research relating to hematological disease and obesity. New methods are being developed for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders, and oncological diseases.
The Clinical Research Center is a collaborative effort between Karolinska University Hospital and Karolinska Institutet. The facility is located in Novum Research Park, Huddinge, which also paves the way for interaction with basic biomedical research.
Research Hotel
The research hotel at the Clinical Research Center contains over fifty fully equipped laboratories with mass spectrometers, equipment for high-throughput gene mutation analysis, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and one of the few 500 MHz NMR spectrometers in Sweden. There are also culture rooms with various levels of security, instrument rooms, cold rooms and freezer rooms, etc.
Currently about thirty research groups conduct research at the research hotel and about 150 different projects are underway.
Core Facilities
The Clinical Research Center has five core facilities that may also be used by external researchers. Core facilities comprise electron microscopy, gene mutation analysis, morphological phenotype analysis, freezer storage for mouse embryos, and production of vectors for gene therapy.
