Karolinska Institutets vision "Excellence in Research" together with the Karolinska University Hospital goal to reach "Future Health Care based on Science and Development" indicate determination in the search of new medical knowledge for patients and society. The foundation for this collaborative avenue towards the future rests on our shared strong academic profiles.
The analyses, from which the research profile areas evolved, began a few years before Huddinge University Hospital and Karolinska Hospital merged in 2004, when two strong academic entities joined forces.
The addition of Karolinska Institutet's strong basic sciences deepened the profile analyses and a united image of our leading profile areas arose. Below, is a simplified overview of the research profiles. The horizontal rectangles (blue) indicate more disease-oriented areas, while the vertical rectangles (pink) present the scientific disciplines common to all of the disease profiles.
