Nursing

Karolinska University Hospital has a long tradition of taking responsibility for the large and important vocationally oriented portion of training that requires patient contact and active participation in various duties.

One of Sweden’s leading nursing programs
The clinical nursing program at the hospital is one of the country’s leading programs with a well-defined structure and high proficiency in advising and teaching students, all aimed at achieving a clinical training program that is both practical and academic. The program takes place in a setting where it is natural to encounter students from other healthcare professions and where interprofessional cooperation is encouraged.

Nurses have trained at Karolinska University Hospital in Solna and Huddinge since they were built, but under the auspices of various schools. For several years now students have mainly come from the Red Cross College, which holds its basic clinical training in Solna. Students from Karolinska Institutet’s nursing program are assigned to Huddinge.

Research-intensive hospital
We are a research-intensive hospital that offers a wealth of opportunities to expose students to science and new developments during clinical training. For a number of years we have also had a unit for care research, where clinically active nurses pursue part of their postgraduate education. This helps to expose students to research, researchers, and development projects during their education.

Satisfied students
Regular evaluations show that our nursing students greatly appreciate receiving their clinical training here. Both patients and personnel benefit from the constant challenge associated with having students, which contributes to good nursing care, constant updating of knowledge, and a good recruitment base for the future.
