Dietitian Program

The dietitian program is offered at the universities in Göteborg, Umeå, and Uppsala. Each year a total of about 50 dietitians receive their degrees in Sweden.

Practical training at Karolinska University Hospital
The program includes two periods of practical training of 1 and 10 weeks each. Under guidance, these traineeships involve taking responsibility for dietary treatment of individual patients as well as planning and providing group instruction. Students are also assigned one or more seminar projects to be presented at the end of the traineeship.

Educational program
Three years of study leads to a dietitian degree and a bachelor’s degree in dietetics, and four years to a master’s degree in dietetics.

Subjects include:

  • Nutrition
  • Food science
  • Dietary sociology and dietary analysis
  • Physiology
  • Dietetics in health and disease
  • Psychology and teaching skills
  • Scientific method

Both the three- and four-year programs culminate with a 15-credit degree project.
