After licensing most doctors continue their education to become specialists in a chosen field.
All of our residents have a residency contract, a personal advisor, and are employed for the entire residency period. The residency contract is not legally binding but is an informal agreement and includes a description of goals for the individual resident.
The resident physician, administrator, and personal advisor all sign the contract. All advisors complete advisor training and programs are regularly offered to educate new advisors.
The specialist training program is goal-oriented and involves about five years of work and courses within the chosen specialty. In order to carry out administration, planning, and allocation of resources for these training programs, we have a director of studies for all resident physicians as well as a residency coordinator at each clinic.
Karolinska University Hospital invites all residents to participate in a three-year leadership and collegial program. It provides resident physicians with the tools to become good leaders, time for reflection, and insight into the organization, as well as promotes interprofessional thinking and creates important networks. The program is dynamic in that it is continually shaped and modified according to the personal wishes of the resident physicians.
Each term education days are held for all interns and resident physicians.
