Health advice on the phone
You are welcome to contact the Health Care Guide (Vårdguiden) 24 hours a day by phone. The phone number is 08-320 100.
Here you can get health care advice from experienced nurses. For example, they will help you to decide if you need to seek help for your health problems and tell you where to go.
You can also get the addresses and phone numbers of all health care providers in the County of Stockholm and find out who your family doctor is.
More information can be find on their website, www.vardguiden.se.
If you become ill on a weekday, you can contact your District Health Centre (Vårdcentral). All District Health Centres are equipped with a telephone ring back system, which means you receive information when you can expect to get a call back.
If you become ill during the night or on a weekend, through the Health Care Guide (Vårdguiden) you can contact the Local Emergency Ward (Närakuten), where a district nurse and a district physician are available at certain times.
If you suddenly become seriously ill or badly injured, you can obtain assistance at the hospital’s Emergency Department (Akutmottagningen). Serious illnesses can include severe respiratory distress, acute chest pains, severe abdominal pains, major bleeding, fractures or in case of a traffic accident. The Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day.
Children in need of emergency care should be taken to the Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital (Astrid Lindgrens Barnsjukhus Solna) if the need is of a surgical, orthopaedic or medical nature, or to Astrid Lindgren Children Hospital in Huddinge (Astrid Lindgrens Barnsjukhus Huddinge) if the need is of a medical nature.
The age limit for care of children is 15 years for a surgical or orthopaedic condition and 16 years for a medical condition.
At the Emergency Department, we work with a triage system - those who are seriously ill must receive care as quickly as possible - patients with less serious conditions may therefore have to wait a bit longer.
Consequently, not all patients are treated in the order of priority based on their time of arrival at the Emergency Department. We always work towards improving the flow for our patients, to reduce the waiting time.
In emergency situations, call 112 and request an ambulance.
You have to bring a valid identification with you, when you visit any of the care or medical treatment centers. This is to prevent any confusion regarding identity and also to prevent people from using false identities.
When you visit health care units or hospitals you have the right to receive information in a way that is adapted to you and your conditions. Naturally, this also applies if you speak another language. If you need an interpreter to/from another language, inform the care personnel of this when you make an appointment. They will ensure that an interpreter is available for you during your visit. The interpreter service is cost-free.
