SBRT- Stereotactic Body Radio Therapy - a method for high precision, high dose radiotherapy

A long clinical experience, a very careful preparation and using the latest equipment is a key to a successful treatment.

Karolinska University Hospital fills those requirements having the longest experience and so far also the largest patient cohort in the world using SBRT.

Stereotactic Body Radio Therapy (SBRT) was developed at the Karolinska University Hospital in 1991 and the method has been refined during following years. Today there is a unique clinical experience of this treatment method at Karolinska.

SBRT has been shown to be suitable for moderately large well defined tumors in the thorax and abdomen, which for various reasons, are not planned for surgical tumor resection. The treatments are given with a high geometrical accuracy to a high dose in a short time period.

SBRT usually consists of three treatments, given every second day. The patient does not stay at the hospital during the treatment period.
