Pediatric Departments

Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital in Solna and Children's Hospital in Huddinge have merged into one pediatric hospital within the organisation of Karolinska University Hospital. 

  • CF Center
    Stockholm’s Cystic Fibrosis Center at Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge, is one of four CF Centers in Sweden.
  • Dermatology Clinic - Pediatric Treatment Unit
    The Department of Dermatology at Karolinska University Hospital is the only one in northern Europe to have its own treatment unit for children and adolescents.
  • Ear, Nose and Throat
    The Departments of Ear, Nose and Throat examine and treat children and adults with illnesses in the ear, respiratory passages, speech organs and the upper areas of the digestive canal and the base of the skull.
  • ECMO Center Karolinska
    ECMO - Extra Corporeal MembranOxygenering.
  • Endocrinology Clinic
    The Endocrinology Clinic at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital treats children up to 18 years of age who suffer from hormonal dysfunction.
  • Gastroenterology
    The Gastroenterology unit works up and treats children and adolescents suffering from gastrointestinal diseases as well as various nutritional problems.
  • Hearing and Balance
    The department provides diagnostic, habilitation, and rehabilitation services for hearing and balance disorders at Huddinge, Solna and Södermalm.
  • Hematology, Immunology, and HIV
    We mainly work up and treat hematologic and immunodeficiency diseases in children.
  • Motor Function Laboratory
    At our Motor Function Laboratory we see children and adolescents with various gait disturbances.
  • Neonatology
    Neonatology is charged with taking care of pediatric diseases that occur during the first few weeks of life.
  • Nephrology Section
    The Nephrology Section at Karolinska University Hospital is based in Huddinge, but also has a presence in Solna.
  • Nutrition - Pediatric Section
    Not all children can eat whatever and whenever they want. The dietitian provides counseling about nutrition to children who improve or become symptom-free on a special diet.
  • Occupational Therapy
    The purpose of occupational therapy is to maximize the individual’s potential, to improve the individual’s work capacity, to avoid compromised work capacity, and to compensate when needed.
  • Pain Unit
    The Pain Unit for children and adolescents is a section of anesthesiology and intensive care services.
  • Pediatric Anesthesiology/Intensive Care
    Services encompass five sections: Anesthesiology, Intensive Care (Pediatric ICU including post-op recovery), Long-Term ICU, ECMO Center Karolinska (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), and the Pain Unit.
  • Pediatric Cancer Ward
    Here at the pediatric cancer ward, as with most wards in our hospital, we work in teams. We focus our efforts not only on the patient with a disease, but on the entire family.
  • Pediatric Cardiology Clinic
    The pediatric cardiology clinic works up children and adolescents suspected of having a heart defect and follows up those who are found to be ill.
  • Pediatric Clinics
    Ambulatory care services include Barnhälsovårdsenheten Nord (Child Health Services Division North) and twelve Pediatric Clinics.
  • Pediatric Diabetes Clinic
    The Pediatric Diabetes Clinic at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital accepts children up to 18 years of age with diabetes. Our catchment area covers the northern half of Stockholm.
  • Pediatric Neurology
    Pediatric neurology services involve work-up and treatment of children and adolescents suffering from neurological diseases, developmental abnormalities, and/or disabilities.
  • Pediatric Orthopedics
    The catchment area for pediatric orthopedics at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital includes all children in the county council up to the age of 14.
  • Pediatric Physiology Clinic
    The Pediatric Physiology Clinic helps attending physicians conduct special tests of the heart, lungs, urinary tract, and digestive tract.
  • Pediatric Radiology Solna
    This university department is a regional specialty that carries out highly specialized and basic diagnostic radiology for children and adolescents on both an elective and emergency basis, and also provides pediatric radiology consulting services to other departments.
  • Pediatric Rheumatology
    The Department of Pediatric Rheumatology at Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital is a knowledge center in pediatric rheumatology.
  • Pediatric Speech Therapy
    The Department of Speech and Language Therapy, Karolinska University Hospital, treats pediatric patients at the clinics in Huddinge and Solna, and at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital and the Skärholmen speech therapy clinic.
  • Pediatric Surgery
    The Pediatric Surgery service carries out surgical procedures for children and adolescents.
  • Pediatric Surgical Operations
    Pediatric Surgical Operations at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital has access to six surgical suites. A variety of specialists in pediatric surgery, pediatric orthopedics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, and ENT surgery provide services at the unit.
  • Physical Therapy
    Physical therapy involves knowledge and studies of human movement, with respect to the ability to perceive, preserve, check, and use the body for a specific purpose, while taking into account the demands of the physical and social environment.
  • Pulmonary Disease and Allergy Clinic
    The Allergy Clinics at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital see children from infancy up to 18 years of age.
  • Respiratory Clinic
    The Respiratory Clinic works up and follows up children with respiratory disorders.
  • SABH - Advanced Home Care of Children
    Advanced Home Care of Children provides the opportunity for severely ill children to receive round-the-clock care at home. In such cases hospital resources are available as a hospital-based care team with various specialties who come to the patient's home.
  • Social Work
    Disease and trauma entail changes in life for both patients and their families. Patients may face new and unfamiliar situations and social workers may offer support in such situations.
